Our Research and Service

Our interdisciplinary faculty span many areas including conflict management, international relations, anthropology, sociology, policy making, peacekeeping, nonviolent problem solving, human rights, and other humanities and social science areas. Not only do they research new and innovative ways to conquer conflict management, peacebuilding and development efforts, but they also roll up their sleeves to integrate their work into society.

  • We research and train in issues from national security studies and strategic nonviolence to civil mediation.
  • We embrace perspectives from social sciences and humanities.
  • We practice conflict management informed by theory and research.
  • We integrate our work into businesses and civil society locally, nationally, and globally.

See our publications page for a list of articles, chapters, and books our faculty have published.

Fulbright Research Specialists

As of March 2017, the School of Conflict Management, Peacebuilding and Development has four faculty members on the Fulbright Specialist Roster, which makes them eligible for projects with 150 host institutions around the globe. During their three-year tenures, the five professors, Dr. Joseph Bock, Dr. Sherrill Hayes, Dr. Brandon Lundy, Dr. Maia Hallward, and Dr. Susan Raines may be selected for projects at host institutions seeking their credentials.

The Fulbright Specialist Program sends U.S. faculty and professionals to serve as short-term experts - typically two to six weeks - at academic and other institutions abroad. The projects support critical priorities identified by the institutions and supported by U.S. embassies and bi-national Fulbright Commissions abroad.

With the Fulbright Specialist Program’s innovative model, Dr. Joseph Bock had an opportunity in December 2016 to visit Greece to help develop a plan to respond to the refugee migrant crisis. Using his expertise in international development, he met with city officials to collect information on the migrant crisis to draft a plan for the Mayor on how to respond to the situation.
