Statement on Diversity and Hate Speech
In light of the recent social media attacks directed at students of color and non-Christian
students at Kennesaw State University, the faculty, deans, department chairs, and
school directors of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences emphasize our commitment
to condemn and confront hate-speech and discrimination directed against members of
our campus community. We celebrate differences of color, religion, and sexual orientation
and identity as we prepare our students for the diversity they will encounter in the
workplace. We call on members of our college and the wider campus community to affirm
the CHSS mission “to empower our students to understand the human condition, to meet
the challenges of the twenty-first century, and to become contributing citizens in
a global society.” It is the responsibility of all members of the KSU community—including
students, faculty, staff and administrators—to challenge and report violations of
the Student Code of Conduct and to help foster a safe and peaceful campus. We must
engage these issues rather than being silent.
