Gary Owenby receives the 2018 Georgia Student Archaeological Research Grant

KENNESAW, Ga. (Nov 26, 2018) — Gary Owenby, one of Dr. Terry Powis' students, was recently awarded the "2018 Georgia Student Archaeological Research Grant." The award is co-sponsored by the Society for Georgia Archaeology, the Georgia Council of Professional Archaeologists, and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. It is the top prize in the State of Georgia.

Owenby received the award for his archaeological research on trade and exchange of Middle Woodland (AD 100-600) pottery along the Chattahoochee River Valley. The award comes with a plaque, $375 in grant funds, and a guaranteed publication in Early Georgia, Georgia's premier archaeology journal.
