Dr. Tamara Powell named Interim Executive Director for Technology Enhanced Learning at KSU

KENNESAW, Ga. (Jul 6, 2018) — Kennesaw State University Interim Provost Linda Noble announced today that Dr. Tamara (Tammy) Powell, Director of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences' Office of Distance Education, has agreed to serve as Interim Executive Director for Technology Enhanced Learning, effective July 9. Dr. Powell replaces Jim Cope who retired June 30. Interim Provost Noble stated in her announcement to the KSU community that "Please join me in congratulating Tammy. Her knowledge and dedication in the area of distance learning will help KSU continue to provide students with alternative course options.".

Tammy has served as the College of Humanities and Social Sciences' Director of Distance Education since 2009. Under her leadership, online courses in CHSS have increased 20%, and the college has added five new online majors and seven new online minors to its offerings. Tammy is nationally certified by Quality Matters (QM) to chair course reviews and train faculty on the QM rubric. She also served as an Online Learning Consortium (OLC) mentor for four years, training faculty around the world in best practices in online learning. At KSU, she has served as the Affordable Learning Georgia (ALG) champion for KSU, working as the liaison between the USG’s Affordable Learning Georgia initiative and KSU. She is the point of contact for the ALG textbook transformation grant, and has herself worked with a team to author a free technical communication textbook. Tammy has been teaching online since 2001 and is a graduate both of the Louisiana Consortium to Advance Distance Education graduate certificate program at LSU and the Institute for Emerging Leaders in Online Learning leadership training program run by the Online Learning Consortium and Penn State.
