Police, Race, and Community: a Teach-in Conversation

KENNESAW, Ga. (Nov 1, 2016) — On the evening of October 24, the KSU Department of Sociology sponsored the third in an ongoing series of “teach-ins,” panel discussions featuring experts and authorities on topics of current interest and significance to KSU students and the community at large. This semester’s event was entitled, “Police, Race, and Community: a Teach-in Conversation.” Panelists included Chief Tony Bailey of the West Point, Georgia Police Department and a KSU instructor; Dr. Jesse Benjamin, Associate Professor of Sociology and African & African-Diaspora Studies at KSU; Ms. Brenda Cleaver, a graduate student at KSU pursuing a Master of Science in Conflict Management degree and a registered neutral with the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution in General/Civil mediation; and Mr. Marcus Coleman, Founder of Save OurSelves (SOS) and founder and former President of Reverend Al Sharpton's National Action Network (NAN) Atlanta.

The teach-in was attended by approximately 200 KSU students, as well as faculty members and other guests.
