Kennesaw State's Mock Trial Team to Go to National Championship Tournament in Washington, DC

KENNESAW, Ga. (Mar 19, 2013) — In a challenging weekend of super-regional competition at Furman University, Kennesaw State's mock trial team earned a bid to the national championship tournament, to be held April 12-14 in Washington, D.C. KSU finished third in a tough field of 24 teams competing for six bids to the championship. We go to D.C. in good company, with the other top finishers from this tournament (Duke, Florida State, Villanova, and Furman), as well as 42 top teams from other super-regional tournaments. Neither UGA nor Emory performed well enough at Furman to advance, leaving Kennesaw as the only team from Georgia going to the "big dance." The American Mock Trial Association tournament series ruthlessly winnows an initial field of 530 teams at regional tournaments down to 48 teams for the D.C. tournament, so naturally we are very excited to be among the nation's elite mockers. Kennesaw State's team is led by political science major Misty Gann, who serves as team captain. Other team members include: Travis Bain, Eric Butler, B.J. Moates, Zack Moore, Tora Norwood, Brandi Sluss, and Kevin Weehunt. Kevin has consistently won outstanding attorney awards throughout the season, and he continued this winning streak at Furman. I am quite proud of all these students representing Kennesaw State so well!
