Dr. Carolyn Carson honored at the Young Lawyers Club in Atlanta on Dec. 7

KENNESAW, Ga. (Dec 15, 2017) — Dr. Carolyn S Carlson, associate professor and director of the School of Communication and Media's Journalism and Emerging Media program, was the guest of honor at a reception Dec. 7 at the Young Lawyers Club in Atlanta, hosted by the Georgia First Amendment Foundation.

Dr. Carlson is a founder of GFAF, which is a statewide organization of journalists, attorneys and public citizens who work to improve access to government in Georgia. She is retiring from the position of treasurer and as a member of the board of director after 20 years of service to the organization.

The reception also honored another retiring board member, Tom Budlong, who represented the Georgia Association of Librarians on the board.

Dr. Carlson and Mr. Budlong were each presented with a wooden  box created by Richard Griffiths, a GFAF board member and retired executive with CNN, that featured the First Amendment on the lid and presidential quotes related to freedom of the press on each side.

"My favorite," said Dr. Carlson, "is the one from Thomas Jefferson: 'Our liberty depends on freedom of the press, and that cannot be limited without being lost.' "
