COM 3320 Students Share Health Communication Research

KENNESAW, Ga. (Dec 7, 2015) — KSU students enrolled in the Health Communication course (COM 3320) presented their research about various health campaigns at the close of the semester. The poster session was held in the Social Sciences Building Atrium on December 3, 2015, and covered various health issues such as childhood obesity, effects of concussions, safe sex, and tobacco use.

The students selected 24 different campaigns such as:

* Fuel Up to Play 60

* Save the Ta-tas

* Tips from Former Smokers

* Dove's Real Beauty

* UCanQuit2

* Got Milk

* "Let's Move"

The students aimed to spread awareness about the health issues or disparities and also critiqued the campaign efforts in terms of effectiveness for the targeted populations. The displays were interactive encouraging visitors to participate and ask questions; many were running example PSAs that were popular from the featured campaigns and others distributed informational brochures to help further the educational efforts.

The course serves as an upper-division elective in the School of Communication & Media, and is taught by Professor Emily Holler. For more information regarding the course, please contact her at eholler@kennesaw.edu.
