Former Dean Beggs returns to Kennesaw for Portrait Dedication

KENNESAW, Ga. (May 12, 2009) — It was a standing room only crowd in the Social Sciences History Center this past Friday, April 3rd, as Kennesaw State University and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences honored former Dean George H. Beggs with an official portrait to be displayed in the CHSS Dean’s Conference Room. As the first Dean of the then School of Arts and Behavioral Sciences, Dr. Beggs helped create and guide the curriculum, programs, and departments into what is now called the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the largest college at Kennesaw State University.

The day started with KSU President Dr. Daniel S. Papp displaying the portrait at the annual All-Boards Day event. From there, the activities moved to the Social Sciences Building, where Dr. Richard Vengroff, Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences gave a rousing introduction to Dr. Beggs and all those in attendance. Dr. Vengroff’s remarks were followed by moving words from KSU Provost Dr. Lendley Black and Mrs. Rosemary Beggs. Finally, the event was opened up to everyone as friends, family, and former coworkers stood up and expressed their gratitude and humorous stories about Dr. Beggs. A great time was had by all.

The portrait honoring Dr. Beggs will be displayed in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences Dean’s Conference Room located in the new Social Sciences Building. Dr. Beggs portrait will be permanently displayed amongst the growing collection of past CHSS Deans portraits being created as a way to honor their impact on the success of our College.
